Home Maker

Splashing the puddles, making paper boats and watching it gently drift away… Some of the fond memories of monsoon time, not to mention summer time! It was a blast, playing, pranking, even fighting. In case of fighting the general rule of thumb was to resolve the fight by ourselves, but there were rare occasions where it had to be taken to the arbitrator, my mother. After hearing every one patiently, she resolved the fight, prompted us to think, to find out the cause for the fight, by ourselves. More importantly encouraging us to learn a lesson from our mistake. It is in a home that an induvial is molded and shaped in the hands of the ‘maker’ into a confident, responsible member of society.

Who is a homemaker?

Women have been endowed with child bearing and rearing since the beginning. Hence homemaking has been her domain and still is today, whether she is working or not.  However, in this contemporary world this term ‘homemaking ‘has a negative connotation and often is viewed in the light of privation. What is the definition of a homemaker? Common definition about a homemaker is, someone who spend a lot of time looking after their family, cooking, cleaning, mending and managing the household. Someone who does not have a job outside the home. The truth is, it is just an incomplete definition of a homemaker. Those, are just one facet of homemaking. To emphasize the role of a homemaker I should first differentiate the meaning between’ a house’ and ‘a home.’ A house is a building or it can be called a structure. A home is the place you feel belonged. It is the homemaker who makes a house into a home. She is the one who creates an atmosphere of beauty, warmth and stability both physical and emotional, to nurture the values and gifts of its members.

Role of a home maker 

A homemaker’s role is manifold. Besides taking care of the aesthetic and functional needs of the household, she tends to the spiritual, emotional, intellectual and physical need of its folks. She is the primary educator of the family and plays a fundamental role in their formation. Instill faith to face life courageously and seed the moral values. Her maternal love and care implant stability and confidence that builds up the identity of its members. She strives to nourish and fortify the intellectual and physical faculties to bring the best out of its folks. “All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother,” quote from Abraham Lincoln

To speak the truth, the role held by a homemaker is very crucial. In fact, its rippling effects on a larger community is even more profound. Home\ family is the nucleus of any society. Hence the molding that takes place at home has its corresponding results at the societal level. Multiple studies and research attest to this fact. Home is the cradle where future generation is molded and shaped into responsible citizens of a country.

It is now up to the discretion of the reader to come to the conclusion, whether the role of a ‘home maker’ is to do some domestic tasks or if it has greater meaning, responsibility, and dignity. Yes, it is an non paying job, but it pays off what money cannot buy.
